Keebler Almond Crescent Cookies Recipe
Last year I shared my favoritealmond sugar cookies with simple icing. While I love baking traditional sugar cookies (and going crazy with the nonpareils) over the holidays, they require a much bigger time investment.
Today’s almond crescent cookies are a fabulous alternative because they are just as elegant, yet so much simpler to prepare.Let’s face it, sometimes we just need quick and easy during the craziness of the holiday season!
You’ll need to reserve 30 minutes of chill time. However, you’ll be able to have these cookies prepped, baked, and ready to go in just over an hour.
How To Make Almond Kiflice (almond Crescent Cookie Recipe)
These crescent cookies are crisp, buttery, and quite hard to resist. I learned how to make these traditional Austrian cookies in culinary school years ago and loved them.
These fun half-moon cookies are classic Christmas cookie originating from Vienna, and often go by the name of kipferl (which translates to crescent or moon) or vanillekipferl (vanilla crescents).
Almond crescent cookies are made from a simple mixture of butter, all-purpose flour, almond flour, powdered sugar, vanilla, and salt. To enhance the natural almond flavor, pure almond extract is included too!
Almond Crescent Cookies / Mezzalune
I like to add a touch of ground cinnamon to my powdered sugar, but ground cardamom or other baking spices could easily be substituted.
Almond flour is one of my favorite pantry staples, because it lends itself to so many applications: cookies, cakes, doughs, fillings, and so much more. It also adds great texture and flavor!
I use it all the time. Most recently in thisCranberry Christmas Cakeand last month’s Pear Frangipane Tart. When I’m not baking with it, I store my almond flour in my freezer to prolong its shelf life (just be sure to allow it to come to room temperature before using).
Keebler Sandies Cookies, Almond Crescents
Luckily, this cookie dough comes together in less than 10 minutes. I recommend using a stand mixer (or hand-held mixer) fitted with a paddle attachment.
The dough should be smooth and just barely tacky. You’ll want to divide it half, then roll each half into a 12-inch log.
Once the cookies are shaped, you’ll want to chill the dough (prior to baking) in the refrigerator for 20 to 30 minutes.

Baking Note: Chilling the dough helps prevent spreading during baking and will maintain the shape of the cookie, so don’t be tempted to skip this step!
Once the cookies have baked (they should be fairly pale), you’ll want to allow them to cool for a minute or two before rolling in powdered sugar. The cookies should still be warm, otherwise the powdered sugar won’t stick and create a consistent coating.
Made with just butter, all purpose flour, almond flour, powdered sugar, salt, vanilla extract, and almond extract, these traditional almond crescent cookies (Austrian kipferl cookies) are easy to prepare and one of my all-time favorite holiday cookies!

Almond crescents are a very basic tea cookie recipe. They're very buttery with a pronounced almond flavor. Matched with a cup of Earl Grey or Almond Rocker they're a great excuse to call over friends on a rainy day for a small tea party of your own.
Almond Crescent Cookies Recipe
These cookies are traditional Austrian cookies, sometimes called Viennese crescents. They're often given as Christmas gifts. Similar cookies can be found in many culinary traditions. Greek kourabiedes (a.k.a Greek wedding cookies), walnut snowballs, and Mexican wedding cookies are all crumbly, nutty, and rolled in sugar like these almond crescent cookies.
You can refrigerate the crescent cookie dough for up to 24 hours, but bring it to room temperature before forming and baking the cookies.
These crescent cookies freeze well for up to 1 month. Freeze them in air tight freezer safe zip top bags or in air tight freezer safe containers.
Almond Crescent Cookies (like Grandmas!)
This dough should be a little crumbly; if it holds together when you press it in your fist, you can use it as it is. If it doesn't, try one or more of these tips.
You can use slivered, blanched almonds and grind them up in a blender or food processor with a few tablespoons of the flour called for in the recipe, but you will have a very crumbly, hard to work with dough. It’ll still taste good, though.

It’s already October and that means, you can start baking Christmas Cookies! I like to get my cookies made and in the freezer. And yes these Almond Crescent Cookies which she always called Viennese Crescents, are another Delicious Christmas Cookie Recipe thanks to my Mom.
Vanilla Almond Crescent Cookies
Every year without fail she would bake up Whipped Shortbread(sometimes she would add chopped nuts instead of chocolate chips), Classic Shortbread, Hello Dollies (or also known as 7 layer bars).

Placenuts in a single layer on an ungreased baking / cookiesheet.Bake5 to 8 minutes or until they are golden brown, remove immediately from pan to cool.
Entenmanns Almond, Holiday Crescents Cookies
In a large bowl beat butter until fluffy, add sugar and beat again until fluffy. Scrape down the sides of the bowl and add nuts, flour and salt. Beat on low until combined.
Bring dough together with your fingers. Break off small pieces and form into a crescent shape. Place on un-greased or parchment paper lined cookie sheets.
Bake for approximately 15 minutes . While cookies are still warm roll in icing/powdered sugar or let cool and dust with icing sugar.
Easy Almond Crescent Cookies
To keep the cookies from spreading it is best to beat the butter and sugar just until combined and not creamed (of course this also depends on the type of cookie), for some cookies including some icing sugar in the mixture also keeps the cookies from spreading.
And don’t forget to chill the dough for at least 1 hour and again the cut out cookies before baking while the oven is pre-heating. Using most of these will help produce the perfect Christmas Cookies.
The cookies should be stored in an airtight container, they will keep for up to 3-4 days at room temperature or for up to 7-10 days in the fridge.
German Almond Crescent Cookie Recipe
To freeze the baked cookies, place them on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Freeze the cookies until completely firm approximately 1-2 hours.
Once the cookies are frozen, then place them in a freezer safe bag or container. They will keep in the freezer for up to 1-2 months. They can be thawed on the counter.
