Strawberry Frozen Greek Yogurt Recipe
This easy frozen yogurt is one of our standby treats for the blazing hot days of summer. (And WOW, it’s been a terrifically and unusually hot few months around here.)
The beautiful thing about this homemade frozen recipe is that it doesn’t require an ice cream maker or any fancy ingredients. AND, it’s low in sugar (and refined sugar free!).
All you need is 10 minutes and three ingredients for this amazing little recipe. I don’t know about you, but my summer/general life coping skills are NOT mad about that.
Minute Healthy Strawberry Frozen Yogurt
That’s it! Did anyone let out a little whoop and holler in the privacy of your own home or office in excitement? I hope so. This recipe is worth it.
And yes, it is wildly adaptable to other fruit options. In fact, here’s a peach version you may already know and love. And there’s a glimpse of a wild berry version down below.
If using a food processor, at first the fruit and yogurt mixture is going to look chunky and you might wonder how it will ever come together, but just give it time.
Strawberry Frozen Yogurt Bark
After a few minutes, it turns into a creamy concoction that is irresistible. It helps to scrape down the sides of the food processor every once in a while to keep it churning well.
For a blender, you’ll want to start on low speed and then help the mixture along with some good ol’ elbow grease tamping action. Here’s a berry blend frozen yogurt I made in my Vitamix. Super thick! And super yummy.
I almost always use plain Greek yogurt. I prefer full fat yogurt for a richer, creamier frozen yogurt, but no-fat or low-fat yogurt works just fine, too!

This frozen yogurt can be made ahead of time and popped in the freezer to eat later. I like to pull it out and let it sit at room temp for a few minutes before digging in to soften it a bit.
However, around here, it usually it doesn’t make it as far as the freezer. The minute that food processor stops whirring, everyone grabs a spoon and gets to work.
Truly, this easy frozen yogurt is a wonder. Quick enough to whip up for an afternoon snack or treat, and delectable enough for dessert after a nice meal.
Homemade Strawberry Frozen Yogurt
The thicker the yogurt, the thicker and creamier the frozen yogurt will be. I prefer using full fat Greek yogurt, but any kind of yogurt can work! Full fat, low fat, no fat, as well as fruit-flavored yogurt or plain yogurt.
That’s a great question! I’ve never made it in an official ice cream or frozen yogurt maker because it is so easy in a food processor or blender, but you could experiment with an ice cream maker.
Yogurt: I almost always use plain Greek yogurt. I prefer full fat yogurt for a richer, creamier frozen yogurt, but no-fat or low-fat yogurt works just fine, too!

Homemade Frozen Yogurt
Most of you know that I love (or I might be slightly obsessed with) my Vitamix. I purchased my first Vitamix years before I ever started as the impetus to adopt healthier eating habits – and it worked.
From smoothies, to soups, to dips, to nut milks and nut butters I pretty much use my Vitamix for everything. It’s been a wise investment because it’s one machine that can do oh, so many things. And that means less appliances and less clutter in the kitchen (which makes my minimalist brain happy).
Would you believe me if I told you there was just 3 ingredients in this recipe? Yep. It’s just a simple combination of:
Strawberry Frozen Yogurt Pie
That’s it! You can also substitute the strawberries with blueberries, raspberries, kiwi fruit, peaches, or your favorite fruit – so many options.
To make homemade strawberry frozen yogurt just add one cup of yogurt, one pound of frozen strawberries and a little honey or maple syrup to your Vitamix. Then, blend on high and use the tamper to push the frozen berries into the blade. In 30 seconds, you’re done. Yes, it really is that easy.
The frozen yogurt will be the consistency of soft serve at this point or the typical “fro yo” and if you like it soft then eat it right away. But if you’d like to firm it up a little, just add it to a storage container and freeze for an hour or two.
Strawberry Frozen Yogurt Recipe (no Machine)
Let’s be clear that not all frozen yogurt is created equal. This homemade version is exponentially healthier than anything you can buy in the supermarket or frozen yogurt shop. And that’s because you can control the ingredients and the amount of sugar.
Pasteurized and Cultured Skim Milk, Sugar, Strawberries, Dextrose, Whey, Maltodextrin, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Vegetable Mono & Diglycerides, Guar Gum, Carrageenan, Cellulose Gum, Natural Flavors, Ascorbic Acid, Citric Acid and Red 40.
That makes me cringe. Especially as there’s more sugar than actually strawberries in their frozen yogurt. And those fillers, emulsifiers and red food dye – yuck.
Frozen Greek Yogurt And Cookie Bark
I’m using my homemade yogurt in this recipe, but you could use store-bought yogurt as well. Just look for a plain version with no added sugar. I always grab a grass-fed dairy yogurt but regular or Greek yogurt both work, it’s totally up to you.

This strawberry frozen yogurt is creamy, smooth, lightly sweet and super easy to make. Just blend some fruit, applesauce, plain yogurt, a bit of sugar and some honey, then freeze. Some gelatin helps keep it smooth, too.
Fresh Strawberry Frozen Greek Yogurt
The honey and gelatin help keep ice crystals from forming. It's perfect right out of the machine but it's more firmly scoopable after freezing for a couple of hours.
Is it just me, or have you wondered if you can freeze Greek yogurt and eat it? Or if frozen yogurt can be made from “regular” yogurt? I'm hoping I'm not the only one!
If you just put Greek yogurt in your ice cream machine, especially if it was sweetened and flavored, you could eat it right out of the machine. It would be a bit icy, but as long as you eat it immediately you won't mind too much. You can't store it in the freezer, though, as it will just be a big block of ice.
Strawberry Frozen Greek Yogurt
This frozen yogurt recipe is made with sugar, honey (since it's better at preventing ice crystals than granulated sugar), and a bit of gelatin. Those additions aren't much more difficult than just throwing some yogurt in an ice cream machine, but they make a world of difference in end result.
In a word? No. You can make homemade frozen yogurt without an ice cream machine at all. I even did that, and only used two ingredients (Greek yogurt + honey). I think a similar method would work with this recipe, although it wouldn't be as creamy. Oh, and I've also made an amazing Pinkberry copycat recipe that is a personal favorite (but has a lot more sugar).
I have had a standard Cuisinart freeze-the-bowl ice cream machine for the longest time, but I have avoided using it for almost just as long. I don't like the fact that you can't make more than 1 pint of ice cream at a time since the bowl must be fully frozen each time.

I also find that a ton of the mixture gets frozen solid to the walls of the bowl no matter what I do. Instead, I've perfected the art of the no-churn homemade ice cream. I did
