Who doesn’t love a good French toast with pure maple syrup for breakfast? It’s so easy and quick to make and even more delicious!
With just a few ingredients in which you probably already have in your pantry or fridge and you have yourself a great breakfast that everyone is going to love.
Making French toast is so simple, offers a ton of great flavor, and has a smell that will get anyone out of bed in the morning. A few ingredients and a few steps are all it takes.
Easy French Toast Recipe
I always encourage people to start every recipe by gathering all of their ingredients so that they are prepared and can focus on the cooking.
So go ahead and grab out 2 eggs, about a 1/2 cup of milk, 2 slices of whatever bread you are using (I am using a nice thick-sliced white bread), cold butter, salt, and cinnamon.
Start by getting your egg mixture ready to go. You want to crack your eggs into a bowl. Be sure not to get shells in the bowl. Add in your milk and whisk it with the eggs until they are incorporated.
Croissant French Toast
Get your frying pan heated up on a medium-low. Once it’s starting to warm up add your cold butter to the pan and let it melt. Now you are ready to cook the French toast.
Once you have dredged your bread slice, add it to your pan. You should hear a little sizzle when you add it in and that will tell you that your pan was good and hot.
Let them cook for a couple of minutes and then flip each slice. Once both sides are good and browned pull the pan off the heat.
Perfect Quick And Easy French Toast Recipe

You can pretty much use any bread that you like. I prefer thick white bread if possible. You can really rich it up using brioche bread!
You can use wheat bread or say sourdough bread, they all taste great. I would not use rye bread, that would taste a little funk for sure.

Simply dredge your bread into the egg mixture not soaking it and then make sure your pan is preheated when you add the French toast. This will prevent the middle of the toast from soaking up a bunch of eggs that won’t get cooked through.

French toast comes out best if you work with thick slices of French or Italian loaf bread that are several days old. That way they've had a chance to firm up, which will make the slices hold up better when you dip them in the egg milk mixture and fry them.

The french toast custard mixture can be made in advance so it means weekend breakfast is hassle free. Place it in fridge overnight for one less step in the morning.
3 Eggs – Medium sized room temperature eggs work best here. For a richer more custard french toast you can use replace 1 egg with two egg yolks. This is a great way to use up leftover egg yolks from recipes that just require egg whites.
1 Cup Milk – I make this recipe with whole milk but this can be substituted. Soy, almond, oat or coconut milk can all be used as well as cream of half and half for a richer french toast recipe.
Challah French Toast For A Special Occasion
Flavorings (1 tsp ground cinnamon / 1 tsp Vanilla Essence) – The flavorings you use depend on how you want to serve the french toast. Cinnamon and vanilla go really well with berries and whipped cream but you may not want them with just maple syrup.
8 Slices of Bread – Any bread can be used here, I would recommend using what you have on hand. Make sure it’s stale so it can soak up the egg mixture or instead leave the slices sitting out for a few hours to dry out.
Add the milk into the mixing bowl. You can also use cream or half and half here if you would like a more indulgent custardy French Toast or a milk alternative.
Cream Cheese Stuffed French Toast
Add in the sugar and mix to combine. You can also add in any flavorings at this point like cinnamon or vanilla essence.
Fresh bread will have too much moisture which leads to soggy french toast. If you do have fresh bread slice it up and leave it uncovered for a few hours or overnight to get stale.
Heat a heavy based frypan like a cast iron skillet over medium low heat and cook the french toast for about 5 minutes each side.

You’ll know your french toast is cooked through when you press in the centre like with a cake and the toast springs back!
Really anything! If you’re looking to make really indulgent French Toast, brioche is a great option. The number one rule here is to just make sure your bread is a little old and stale, don’t use fresh bread as it has too much moisture. Thick or thin slices work too, they will just take different amounts of time to cook through.
You can make the custard in advance and place it into the fridge until you are ready to cook the french toast.
Seriously Good French Toast
Yes this is a great option especially if you are making a large amount. Place your french toast onto a lined baking sheet and place into a 180C/350F oven for about 20 minutes, turning half way.
