Apple pie knows no seasons and that is exactly why I don’t wait around for Fall every year to enjoyit. I wanted to share something a little differentthat still embodies everything I love about traditional apple pie and definitely deserves a spot in your favorite Thanksgiving pie recipes. The crumble topping complements the apple filling perfectly. What really makes it stand out are all of the toasty walnuts. I’ve been using Diamond of California walnuts since I was little. It’s all my mom kept in the pantry to throw into her oatmeal raisin walnut cookies. Though I much preferred chocolate chips in my oatmeal cookies when I was 10, I’m all about nuts in desserts now. And you’ll LOVE what the toasted walnuts* add to this pie.

Step 1: Make the pie crust if you are making homemade and make your crumble topping. Place both in the fridge to chill.
The crumb topping for this apple crumble pie can be made ahead of time and frozen in a large zip-style bag. Makes prepping for Thanksgiving and other gatherings super easy!
Quick & Easy Apple Crumble Recipe
Always keep your pie dough cold. Place it back into the fridge if needed. This keeps the fat particles cold and make the pie dough flaky. Don’t overwork your pie crust! This is essential!
There’s no need to cook apples before putting in the pie shell! Toss the raw apples with sugar and tapioca and pour them into the bottom crust.
Crumble topping: In a medium bowl, combine the brown sugar, sugar, flour and cinnamon. Use your fingers to incorporate the butter. Adjust the cinnamon to your liking. Sprinkle over apples.

“The Best” is a pretty big statement and not one I take lightly… and “The Best” fits this Apple Crumb Pie perfectly! I first served this apple pie Thanksgiving many years ago and it was a HUGE hit, it has been requested over and over again!
The base of a perfect apple pie (or apple crumble) starts with choosing the right apples. You’ll want an apple that is crisp and slightly tart but will hold its shape while baking.

While you certainly can use any apple, some apples have a softer texture or are less crisp meaning your pie could become mushy or the apples won’t hold their shape. Find more info on apples for baking here.
This will vary based on the recipe you’re using and the topping, this particular recipe uses a delicious crumb topping so the apples are really piled sky-high.
Which will be approximately 6-7 cups of apples. Always be sure to peel your apples for pie as the skin can become tough and chewy once baked.

Crumb Topped Apple Pie Recipe: How To Make It
If you bake this apple crumb pie ahead of time, you can warm it in the oven again before serving. Reheat at 325°F for about 20 minutes (heated from room temperature).
You can freeze this pie either before or after baking. If frozen before baking, the pie can be baked from frozen. To bake from frozen, preheat the oven to 425°F and cover the pie
