My easy Traeger Smoked Ham Recipe is glazed with a delicious maple champagne glaze and smokes right on your wood-pellet grill for a tender, juicy, double-smoked ham that your entire family will enjoy.
Most of the hams you will buy in the major groceries stores are going to be pre-cooked, pre-smoked hams. They are typically the kind that say you can slice and serve them immediately, and they are also known as “City Hams”.

Since these hams are already fully cooked and smoked, all you really need to do is re-heat the ham in order to serve it. We do it slowly and on a Traeger wood-pellet grill so it can pick up even more rich smokey flavors, and stay tender and juicy until it is time to slice and serve.
The maple champagne glaze makes things just a little sweet and is the perfect sauce to serve alongside the ham once it is heated through and sliced.
Since the hams we’d be using are already smoked once during the cooking process, what we are making here is actually a double-smoked ham.

How long you need to cook smoked ham on a bbq depends first on what type of ham you are cooking. If you are cooking a fresh or country ham, these directions won’t apply.
To double-smoke a city ham, just start your smoker or pellet-grill and place your ham on it. I like to cook mine in a pan with about a cup of cooking liquid inside. I used prosecco, but have also used hard cider and regular apple juice as well, very successfully.
My classic smoked scalloped potatoes are the perfect side for this easy double-smoked ham recipe. I’d also suggest some corncakes and a crisp green salad with Greek Freak Salad Dressing. Hey Gary! I'm not sure. I've never cooked a ham from frozen. I think it is possible, it'll just take longer since you're starting the cook with the meat at a much lower temperature than thawed meat. Make sure to temp the inside so it comes up to the minimum safe temps, and this will also depend on what kind of ham you have (pre-cooked or not).

It can be done in the oven, yes. It won't be as smoky as it would be if you did the whole thing on the grill, but it'll still be delicious!

After this particular cook, my husband wanted to try a new leftover smoked ham sandwich idea. It was overflowing with smoked mac and cheese, too. It was ridiculously over-the-top tasty.
No, if you’re just reheating a fully cooked ham in the smoker to add flavor and warm it up, then reheat it to 140°F. Otherwise, if you were cooking something like a fresh ham hock or another cut of ham that was uncooked, you’d need to cook it to 160°F before you remove the ham.
There are so many ways to bring new flavor to smoking a ham that’s already cooked. In addition to the herbs and spices listed in the smoked ham glaze recipe, you can add brown sugar, maple syrup, apple juice / cider, or pineapple juice to sweeten up your glaze.
Traeger Smoked Ham Recipe With Brown Sugar And Mustard Glaze
My go-to wood pellets are usually the Traeger signature blend, or the Traeger Turkey blend that I stocked up for making Thanksgiving recipes. You really can’t go wrong with either the really smoky pellets (like mesquite) or the sweet fruity flavors (like cherry or maple).
Really, the question is: what are the best side dishes to smoke at 375 degrees F… so they can smoke at the same time as the ham. As you see in the video, I smoked side dishes from the (gifted) Traeger Provisions Porchetta Box at the same time, including smoked mashed potatoes, smoked squash, and smoked mac and cheese.
If you’re reducing the temperature of the smoker for ham from my suggestion of 375 degrees F to 250 degrees, the time to smoke it will drastically increase. Instead of about 90 minutes, plan for 7-8 hours. Personally, I like smoking ham at 375 because you can smoke mashed potatoes or smoke mac and cheese or vegetables at about the same time and temperature and make a full meal.

It’s like being psychic! The great thing about either of the thermometers above is that I don’t have to take the food out of the oven to know the temperature.
How to use ‘em… What I do is stick the digital thermometer in steak, pork, chicken, whatever… Then put the food in the oven, on the smoker, or grill.
While the meat cooks, it reads the temperature so I know exactly what temp meat is as it’s cooking. Without having to take it out and check. It’s really difficult to overcook food when you know exactly what temp it is inside!
