I follow an intermittent fasting lifestyle and a ketogenic diet and have reaped many benefits from this way of eating, including weight loss, mental clarity, and more energy.

When I first began, transitioning to becoming fat-adapted was difficult for me. That’s when I discovered how bulletproof coffee could help me get into ketosis and easily do extended fasts.

Adding fat to my coffee gives me the energy to make it through the morning without spiking my insulin. Once my body adapted and got into ketosis, I could do extended fasts and found it easier to follow a ketogenic diet.

You’ll need a cup of freshly brewed coffee, MCT oil, grass-fed butter or ghee (you can make your own ghee – also coconut oil works too), and a blender.

Carefully pour the coffee into the blender and add the MCT oil and butter. Place the lid on the blender and blend on low until the butter melts and is incorporated into the coffee. Pour the coffee into a mug and enjoy!

You can, but it’s best to skip the sweetener if your goal is weight loss. Stevia and monk fruit are natural zero-calorie sweeteners that are considered healthy keto-sweeteners.

So what is Bulletproof coffee? In its purist form, it is a combination of fat, (usually butter, coconut oil ORMCT oil)and coffee. In recent years, it has devolved into basically any kind of coffee with lots of fat blended in. The new most common sources are fats like:

The original, and in my opinion, the best version of Bulletproof coffee is two parts butter to one part MCT oil. Making a keto butter coffee is the easy part. To begin you simply throw everything into a blender and blend it together. I like adding all of the oils in first with the blender set on a food scale so I can make sure I’m tracking my fat intake properly. Keto coffee can be a great way to manage hunger and appetite, but too many grams of healthy fats can still put you well over your calorie goals.
