Plus, braising cabbage is simple. The loose, gently curly leaves ofsavoy cabbageare especially perfect for this dish, but regular green cabbage works too. Green cabbage and savoy cabbage can typically be used interchangeably with similar results, although savoy is certainly prettier.

Whether served raw in slaw or salads, roasted, or sautéed, savoy cabbage's ruffled leaves make an attractive dish. Properly stored, raw cabbage keeps for three or four weeks in the refrigerator, making it a great choice when you're planning ahead.

This flexible side dish goes with a huge range of main dishes: roast chicken, grilled steak, broiled fish, rice, and beans—the list is practically endless.

Braised Cabbage (white Cabbage Recipe)

Leftover braised cabbage should be allowed to cool to room temperature and refrigerated within two hours of cooking. Store it in a shallow, airtight container and eat within three to five days.

Generally, it is best to rinse cabbage under running water before cooking. Though you'll remove and discard the outer leaves that protect the inner parts of the cabbage, there is a chance that worms or debris are inside the head. When you quarter the cabbage, place it in a colander and rinse it thoroughly, then let it dry as much as possible before cutting.

It’s a real highlight for me. But it’s hard to buy red cabbage in the shops at many times of year. However you can get fresh red cabbages all year round.

Usually gracing Christmas isles nearer to the big event. So when I went in hunt for sweet red cabbage last week to serve with roast dinner. Much to my horror I was told it was a seasonal product. I Consequently stood in the supermarket and googled the recipe

And let me tell you I won’t be buying it again. As indeed like always, home-made is best. And in this case this braised sweet red cabbage recipe is a hell of a lot cheaper and sooo easy!

Roast dinner is a big meal to make, this is an easy 5 ingredient red cabbage, perfect to throw in a pan and simmer away whilst roast dinner is cooking.

How To Cook Red Cabbage For Roast Dinner

Cover the pan and simmer until the cabbage is thoroughly cooked and slightly soft, stirring often, for about 30-45 minutes depending how soft you like your red cabbage.

Yes you can freeze once its been cooked. I always make up a couple of batches of cabbage and separate into portions in freezer bags. Which you can freeze for up to 3 months.

It’s also great to have ready in the freezer, ready to pull out for roast dinners and it makes Sundays so much easier having home made frozen portions ready to go. Just thoroughly defrost and reheat in a pan to use.Sauteed cabbage is a simple and quick cabbage recipe that only takes about 15 minutes to make. Shredded cabbage sautéed in olive oil, butter, garlic salt and pepper. This delicious side will make you change your mind about this vegetable forever. Easy Roasted Cabbage Recipe

I won’t say I am a big fan of cabbage, but you can always catch me making this sautéed cabbage every now and then. I love the fact that it is healthy, low carb and if paired with protein, it can make a complete meal.

Three things you would find me making with cabbage are coleslaw, wraps and of course in today’s recipe, sautéed cabbage. There was a time I tried this cabbage recipe for a week with roasted chicken as meal prep. I shared it on my Instagram page, and I was surprised by how many people wanted the recipe. I said “surprised” because I didn’t think anyone would fancy cabbage that much out of all vegetables.

Apart from the ways of eating and using cabbage that I mentioned above, my other favourite way of cooking cabbage is this stove top method. Sautéed cabbage is easy to make, and it come together in 15 minutes. As much as I enjoyed this cabbage recipe, one other thing I find therapeutic about it is the cutting of the cabbage itself or should I say shredding the cabbage. Before I start rambling too much, today's post is a quick one to show you how to make sautéed cabbage, so let’s get right into it.

Slow Cooker Beef & Cabbage With Potatoes & Carrots Recipe

Cabbage: I only prefer to use shredded white cabbage i.e. the green cabbage. I rarely use purple cabbage but feel free to do so if it’s what you have. Other alternative includes savoy cabbage, I love it for the colour and texture. Depending on how many people you are catering for, one small head cabbage would feed four people conveniently.

Butter and Olive oil: I love using the combination of the two, especially because the butter adds great flavour to the sautéed cabbage. I recommend you use a good quality butter. For the olive oil please stick with the light olive oil as the smell of extra virgin olive oil can overpower this simple dish.

Salt and pepper: I used ground black pepper, but you can also use rep pepper flakes if that is what you have

Sheet Pan Roast Chicken And Mustard Glazed Cabbage Recipe

Chopped onions, shredded carrots, garlic, leeks or bacon just to mention a few. You may also add spices and herbs of choice.

Add the cabbage and stir to combine. Cabbage does take time to wilt so you would need a bit of patience before you start seeing any changes. Alternatively, cook the cabbage in batches and adjust olive oil and butter to taste.

Sauteed

After about 5 minutes of stirring, season with salt and pepper and mix to combine. Leave the cabbage untouched for another 2 to 3 minutes and then stir. After about 10 minutes, the cabbage will start to become tender and brown.

Sauteed Cabbage (easy & Healthy)

Stop stirring and leave the cabbage for another 2 to 3 minutes to brown further but not burnt. Taste to see if it’s to your liking at this point, adjust pepper and salt to taste. Finally, stir to combine. Take it off the heat and serve warm

Sauteed cabbage can be served as a side to almost any meal, serve this sautéed cabbage with this instant pot coconut rice. In fact, this was served with honey garlic pork chops, if you don’t like pork, no worries you may like this honey garlic salmon. Serve it alongside your Sunday roast or even with meal prep, sautéed cabbage can be eaten with these stovetop chicken thighs or easy baked drumsticks for a complete meal.

Cooked cabbage can be stored for up to 5 days in the fridge under the right temperature. Frozen cabbage can be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months
